"In its future work, Transparency International Serbia will not
deal with concrete corruption cases and abuses of official positions,
but it will concentrate on establishment of anticorruption mechanisms
and institutions which will lay down sound practices for the future",
said Dr Predrag Jovanovic, the president of TI Serbia at the Founding
Assembly of the national chapter of Transparency International in Serbia,
held on February 28th, 2001.
The most important among many ACTIVITIES are the campaign to raise public
awareness, educational programs, workshops and conferences, expert studies,
technical assistance, the proposed National Anticorruption Strategy, the
initiative for the reform of public procurement, monitoring public procurement
reforms and budgeting in Serbia and the availability of expert opinion
and recommendations.
Working on public procurement procedure will be priority of the organization
in the first phase, emphasized Dr Jovanovic, adding that there were no
adequate legal regulations in the area whichconfirmed to European standards.
Also, members of the Founding Assembly agreed that it is necessary to
monitor privatization process in Serbia and recommend expert critiques
and proposals. Also, basic education of citizens in the area of anticorruption
actions and increasing of transparency at one and municipality status
at the other side, should start as soon as possible. Moreover, chapter
will start publishing expert studies on privatization, public procurement,
license system, etc.
