Curbing corruption in Serbia – promotion of legislation and practice in the area of public procurement, preventing conflict of interest and free access to information

 

Through this project Transparency Serbia got the chance to continue its intensive work on monitoring the implementation of three important anticorruption regulations. Results of monitoring will be presented on regular press conferences, as well as a part of special publications, in which along with findings of partner organizations, analysis of status and work of independent organs, with expert recommendations for promotion of legal frame but also for more successful implementation of the law will be presented.

Belgrade, 02.11.2006 -Transparency Serbia in the wishing to increase public insight into financing of electoral campaign prepared draft of new report form which political parties, coalitions and citizens’ groups would submit to Republic Electoral Commission ten days after the elections. Belgrade, 01.11.2006 -Transparency Serbia considers that citizens of Serbia have the right to know in which way were the budget assets for referendum campaign spent. Campaign was lead in one part by Government Media Office- through advertising in media, billboards and in other ways. However, state campaign is obviously financed also on other ways – such are non commercial advertisements of state enterprises. .» details »

Belgrade, 20.10.2006 -Transparency Serbia considers that establishing of, on the Law based, independent body for fight against corruption  represents one of the most important elements of implementation of the National Anticorruption Strategy, adopted on December 2005, and fulfilling one of the obligations from ratified Convention of UN for fight against corruption.

Belgrade, 12.10.2006 - Evaluation of GRECO experts (Group of States against corruption, which functions under favour of Council of Europe) is one of the most significant instruments for monitoring progress that countries made in fight against corruption. By entering GRECO in 2003, former Serbia and Montenegro accepted the obligation to follow recommendations. It is good to note that GRECO evaluates only some segments, not entire legal and institutional framework for fight against corruption. In the report published on October 9th 2006 Serbia got 25 recommendations, with end of next year as deadline for implementation.» details »

Belgrade, 04.10.2006 - Transparency International presented, today, results of research that were published as „Bribe Payers Index“. Research was made on the basis of response of 11.232 businessmen from 125 countries, and in it is the analyze of firms from 30 world’s largest countries exporters’ disposition to manage to enter foreign market or sustain started business through bribe. Belgrade, 29.09.2006 - Capability of Serbia to curb corruption can depend also on some constitutional provisions. Drafters of supreme country's legal act were certanly introduced with main problems and recommendations how to overcome them through National Anti-corruption Strategy adopted in December last year.» details »
