Public statement:

 

Resolving problem of overpaid money for party financing

 

 

Transparency – Serbia welcomes decision of Government of Serbia to propose provision in Budget law for 2008, which has for goal to secure return into state budget, assets which parliamentary political parties got in previous years in larger amount then prescribed by the Law on Financing of Political Parties, and above all 62 million of dinars (more than 750 thousand EUR) overpaid during last year.

To implement this regulation it is necessary that MPs vote for it but also that Ministry of Finance precisely determines all inconsistencies with the Law on Financing of Political Parties in the period from 2004. until today, as well as amount overpaid to each political party.

If the Parliament and Ministry of Finance do so, consequences of mistake to which Transparency Serbia point out to on September 20th 2007, will be resolved in a best way. In that way state organs will also encourage civil society organizations and media to monitor actively in the future process of adoption and execution of budget.
