Press Release
Securing of system protection for „whistleblowers“
Organization Transparency – Serbia salutes announcement of reemploying former employee of Roads of Serbia Goran Milošević which had the courage to collect and publish evidence on abuses on collecting road toll in that enterprise, after that contract on his employment wasn't prolonged. This is certainly good news which can be encouragement to other brave servants whose destiny was similar to Milošević's. That is one more confirmation of the benefits of the Law on Free Access to Information and Commissioner's engagement in the fight against corruption.
Transparency – Serbia reminds the public that protection of servants which are ready to unveil corruption and other irregularities in work, became international obligation of Serbia a long time ago, which originates from Civil Rights Convention on corruption, ratified by our country a year ago, from GRECO recommendations, which we are obligated to fulfill.
We consider that none society, and especially not the state which stated corruption as one of its key priorities, mustn't bring itself into situation that officials who unveil corruption must wait for so long for protection or reward, nor that representatives of authorities react only when some case gets great media attention.
