On Saturday 15th, Transparency Serbia and Beta news agency jointly
organized round table:
Corruption and informing ABOUT corruption – opportunities for
Western Balkan countries cooperation
Participants were Government of the Republic of Serbia high representatives:
vice-prime Minister, Mr. Zarko Korac and SPAI national coordinator for
Serbia and Montenegro, Ms Aleksandra Drecun, investigative journalists
from Croatia and Serbia and representatives of Transparency International
National Chapters from Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia.
Many important issues were tacled, such were: anti-corruption laws and
reasons for delay in their enacting; practice of using experiences from
the Western Balkan countries in drafting and implementation of anti-corruption
laws; finding a balance between privacy of politicians and right of public
to get information on them, how MEDIA should deal with corruption scandals;
responsibility of journalists and politicians for public word, etc.
The debate proved that problems in the region were very simmilar and
that continuing of the discussion in the near future in highly needed.
The round table was highly covered by all printing and electronic MEDIA
in Serbia.
